MTIAPI Joins BPO Summit Philippines 2008
The Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines, Inc. (MTIAPI) participated in the BPO Summit Philippines 2008 held last December 2-3, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria, Pasig City.
The two-day summit provided a venue for the non-voice industry clusters to discuss current issues and trends, created business matching opportunities, built career awareness, and showcased the outsourcing capabilities of each featured sector.
Aside from MTIAPI, other BPO organizations which staged the event include the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P), the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI), the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) and the Philippine Software Industry Association of the Philippines (PSIA). These associations held simultaneous events that comprised plenary and track sessions, industry pavilions and vendor exhibits, career talks, onsite recruitment and other special events. The Board of Investments (BOI-DTI), the Center of International Trade Exhibitions and Missions (CITEM-DTI) and the Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) were the government agencies supporting this pursuit.
The event drew interest and attendance from industry practitioners and professionals, corporate executives and managers, entrepreneurs and investors, academe and students. Relevant tracks were discussed by subject matter experts from the Medical Transcription Industry Association of the United States and MTIAPI member companies. Some of these topics were:
US Outlook and Trends in Medical Transcription by Mr. Peter Preziosi, CEO of AHDI/MTIA; Is the World Economic Meltdown a Doomsday for the BPO Industry? By Mr. Fred Kumetz, CEO of eData Services Philippines, Inc.; Building a Sustainable Relationship with US MT Service Organizations by Mr. Colin Christie, CEO of MxSecure; The Future of US Electronic Clinical Documentation by Mr. Nick van Terheyden, CMO of M-Modal; Building Sustainable Careers in Medical Transcription: Corporate and Home-based Work by Mr. Ananda Sanjeev, General Manager of Acusis and the last topic was Business Process Re-engineering: A Means to Stay Competitive in Medical Transcription and Exploring Opportunities in Legal, Business, and General Transcription by Mr. Francis Patalinghug, VP for Operations of SPi Technologies.
During the summit, MTIAPI bannered its First Transcription Congress as its main activity. The association conducted related competitions such as essay writing contests for college students and MT Skills Challenge as drumbeaters prior to the Transcription Congress. The events’ final round and awarding of prizes were held on the second day of the summit.
BPO Summit Philippines 2008 was organized and spearheaded by Media Focus, Inc, the same group which organized the Contact Center Association of the Philippines’ Call Center Conference and Expo in 2007 and 2008.
